The Third Annual Stitch Holiday Open House:

We’re in the home stretch before Christmas and chances are you would just love a few minutes to work on your favourite project and to hang out with fellow needle artists.  Perhaps you just need a few quiet moments to finish that special Christmas present?  Fear not; we have the crackling fire, the treats and the camaraderie all set to go.

Stitch is having its third annual Open House / Knit In Sunday December 19 (from 12:00 - 5:00).  Jordan Village is spectacular at this time of year and we’ve got a wonderful, vibrant community here at Stitch- it’s definitely something I’m eternally grateful for.  Hope to see everyone on Sunday!

2010 Fall Workshops at Stitch

We’ve got some wonderful needlecraft experiences lined up for you this Fall.
Check back soon for a special Christmas-themed workshop yet to come this year and a listing of the workshops we’ve lined up for the New Year.

Call us at : (905) 562-1505  to reserve your space soon.  These classes tend to fill up quickly.

Americo Mitts

Back by popular demand!  This workshop will span two Sunday afternoons and will focus on making the most scrumptious Alpaca mittens. The patterns use Americo worsted and superfine Alpaca. Choose from two different styles. These would make a wonderful Christmas gift for someone special – if you can bear to part with them. I still have mine!

Session I: Sunday November 14th and 21st 1:00 – 2:30 pm

Session II:  Sunday November 14th and 21st 3:00 – 5:00 pm

Skills Required: Knit and Purl

Cost: Free with purchase of Americo yarn to make the mittens.

The “Off to Paris” Bag:
One of my favourite people went off to France this Fall  and not only did I want to stow away in her bag – I wanted the bag too!  Join us for this day-long workshop and learn how to make a reversible, simple bag with or without pockets.   It can be made from vintage fabrics or more contemporary ones such as the line by Amy Butler or the French General’s linen/cotton.
Session:  Wednesday November 10th 11am – 5pm (Check back for more dates for this workshop).

Cost:  $35 plus materials.

“Gotta Have That Sewing Case”:
That favourite person of mine has a lot of great accessories and this sewing case is one of them.  This is the sewing case that people can’t keep their hands off of.  This workshop will take you through the steps in making a sewing/knitting case which can be embellished using your own wonderful treasures.
Session:  Wednesday November 24th 11am – 5pm

Cost:  $35 plus materials.
Take both the Paris Bag and the Sewing Case seminars together for only $60.

Avant Garde Felting:

Using simple (and stress-reducing!) techniques, Amber will show us how to felt a unique scarf using roving, wool batts and other materials.  The possibilities are endless!

Sessions:  Wednesday, November 17th 10am – 12:30pm

Cost:  $45.00 Plus materials.

Felted Christmas Stocking

Alterknits Felt by Leigh Radford is one of my favourite books. This felted stocking has that “Seussical” feel to it and is sure to add a little whimsy to your festivities. You’ll knit this stocking in the round using Malabrigo worsted yarn and then come back for the second session a few weeks later to felt it at Stitch.

Sessions: Sunday November 28th 1 - 3 pm

Skills Required: Knit and Purl

Cost: $75.00 (Includes copy of Alterknits Felt book, workshop and 3 skeins of Malabrigo Worsted weight.)

Please note:  Class fees are required in advance to register for the workshop.  You can register in person or with a credit card by phone.  Workshops are non-refundable and non-transferable.  This helps us to book the instructor’s time and to reserve your materials.

It’s a Sale at Stitch October 1st , 2nd and 3rd!

Where on earth did the summer go!  It always seems a bit bittersweet when it’s over … but the upside is that there are so many beautiful new yarns and fabrics in the store to kick off the fall season.  The irony lies in the fact that I’m so busy bringing it in that I often don’t get a chance to post about it!  Saturday, October 2nd is the celebration of Pioneer Days in Jordan Village and to honour the event, we’re having a 20% off sale.  If you come to the store on Saturday and see the road blocked off – don’t worry, we’re open for business.  If you tell the people at the gate that you’re going to Stitch they’ll let you in without charge but honestly, it is worth the price of admission to enjoy the rest of the festivities while you’re here.  There should be parking at the top of the street (close to the Jordan House hotel) or on Nineteenth Street at the new Fire Station. The sale will take place :

Friday October 1 from 11:00 – 10:30, Saturday October 2 from 11:00 - 6:00 and Sunday October 3 from 12:00 – 5:00.

We’ll be offering 20% off all yarn and fabrics in store.
If you’ve had your eye on a special yarn or fabric to treat yourself with, now’s the time!

Join us on Saturday June 19 for World Wide Knit in Public Day.

World Wide Knit in Public Day (WWKIPD) was created in 2005 to show the general public that knitting can be a community activity.  Since WWKIPD started, it has grown from 25 gatherings to hundreds all over the world!  When many knitters come together and pursue their craft in public, it reminds everyone that knitting is still alive and well and done by all types of people.  Often it’s a great opportunity for those who are interested in learning to knit to ask questions and check out the beautiful things being made.  It’s a way to celebrate the craft we love so much by sharing it with others.

Join us on Saturday June 19 to celebrate World Wide Knit in Public Day.  Weather permitting, we’ll be able to enjoy the side garden.   Be sure to bring a chair and we’ll be happy to supply the lemonade.   The Stitch Knit in Public Day gathering will start at 11:00 when we open and run until 6:00 when we close.

Store directions and contact information can be found at www.stitchonline.ca
